Hand Buzzer, 2026
The constructed paintings in Hand Buzzer layer familiar materials, religious symbols and cultural references to present darkly humorous critiques of our current sociopolitical moment. Visual puns abound and the pieces often act as puzzle devices, inviting viewers to peer into niches or through veils of fabric and paint to glimpse fields of meaning. By combining assemblage and painting, the series seeks to expand their respective territories and narratives. The disparate materials, surfaces, depths, repurposed objects, and found text and images create both compositional tension and conceptual strata ripe for excavation.
On view at Confluence Studio Gallery, April 11-May 6, 2026.
